Understand and manage ADHD
with a counselor with ADHD
I offer strategies for managing and regulating ADHD in ways that are tailored to your needs.
Day-to-day functioning with ADHD can be improved once we understand the process and patterns that leave you feeling stuck.
Whether you’ve been recently diagnosed or have been diagnosed since childhood, it can be difficult to come to terms with your strengths and challenges.
I offer a mindful perspective for approaching your symptoms so you can look at them without judgment and lessen the shame, allowing you to do more with life.
Anxiety
Anxiety is
An overestimation of threats
and an underestimation of your abilities
Anxiety can come in all shapes and sizes. The first step to managing your anxiety is understanding when and where your anxiety affects you the most.
It can be difficult to manage and regulate your emotions when you are constantly in a state of fight/flight mode, learn and apply coping skills that help you return to baseline.
When your emotions are regulated, you will have more capacity to be able to manage and handle your stressors. Planning can happen once we understand your triggers and what you can do after you feel regulated.
Trauma
Unlearning lessons to help you move forward
Difficulties with self-expression may stem from a history of rejection, dismissal, or neglect. I provide a space where you can become more comfortable expressing your thoughts and emotions.
If you grew up in an invalidating environment, you may have learned lessons about yourself, others, and how the world works that aren’t necessarily true.
Identifying and understanding which lessons leave you feeling shameful, unworthy, or stuck is the first step to breaking the cycle.
What does it mean to be yourself? What values are important to you? What do you want your life to look like going forward?
These are some of the questions we will reflect on in sessions to help you move away from others’ expectations and toward the life you want to create.
